A Guide to The Parent Partnership Service - For parents and carers who have children with special educational needs.

The Parent Partnership Service gives impartial, confidential help and support to parents and carers who have children needing extra help at nursery or school, perhaps because they:

• are disabled

• have a learning difficulty

• have an emotional or behavioural difficulty

• find it more difficult to learn than other children the same age

The service is independent of the Rutland County Council.

We aim to enable parents, carers, teachers and education authority staff to work together as well as listening to your child’s views.

As well as practical advice and support we keep information on other agencies that may be helpful to you.

We can help in many ways, including:

• advice about your legal rights and responsibilities

• explain the Special Educational Needs Statement process

• assist with negotiations between parents, carers and schools or the Local Authority

• listen to your views, worries and concerns

• assist you to get your opinion and voice heard

• explain jargon, assist with paperwork and attend meetings with you

Advice is available in person, by phone or by email.
